Breezy Hill W&S to Begin Utility Improvements on Belvedere-Clearwater Road
Clearwater, South Carolina, March 18, 2019:
Breezy Hill Water & Sewer Company, Inc. (BHWS) has awarded a construction contract to begin improvements to its water mains and sewer force mains along Belvedere-Clearwater Road (SC Highway 126) in Aiken County. Planning for this project began in 2017 in preparation for the SC Department of Transportation’s widening of Belvedere-Clearwater Road. Some two miles of existing water mains will be replaced with new 8-inch water mains and a short section of existing sewer force main will be relocated in support of the development expected to follow the widening which will take place between Old Sudlow Lake Road and Jefferson Davis Highway (US Highway 1/78).
The BHWS Board of Directors and its General Manager Jeff Lowe are pleased to see construction begin on this long-awaited project. Construction is expected to begin in early April and should be completed by mid-September. Traffic disruptions are expected to be minimal as much of the work will take place along the edges of the newly widened rights-of-way. The work will enable the installation of modern PVC and ductile iron water mains to replace the existing water mains along this stretch of Belvedere-Clearwater Road.
Hybrid Engineering, Inc. of Columbia serves as the project’s Engineer. Tri-Star Contractors, Inc. of Edgefield has been awarded a $905,475 contract to perform the construction work. The project is being made possible in part through a $500,000 grant from the SC Rural Infrastructure Authority to BHWS through an intergovernmental agreement with Aiken County.
